Library Journal Review

The first in a series on the status of women in the United States, this book is the result of research done under the auspices of the Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues. The first four chapters, covering women in the 20th century, the family, the economy, and the women's movement as a political process, are in-depth reports providing excellent comparative composites of women's status past and present. Statistical data documents the changes, while the text gives information on what these numbers actually mean in women's lives. Brief chapters on topics ranging from women in the military to the classroom environment for women are included along with separate sections on black and Latina women.
