Dolle's Anne Bradstreet, his "love offering to The Tenth Muse,'" is a work of meticulous scholarship, beautifully organized and presented. The introduction, which evaluates biographical accounts, bibliographies, and criticism, is a long bibliographic essay arranged chronologically by century and within the 20th century by critical focus (her feminism, her Puritanism, her place in American literature, etc.). The bibliography itself is arranged year-by-year, beginning with the first publication of Bradstreet's poems in 1650 and including citations to articles published as late as 1989. The introductory matter clearly explains what is not included and where it can be found. Annotations, informative and nonevaluative, not only summarize the main ideas, but also give a sense of each writer's tone and style. Two useful indexes--one to authors and editors and one to subjects, persons, and titles--complete the work. Dolle (English, Indiana State University) has made a significant contribution to Bradstreet scholarship. Highly recommended to both undergraduate and graduate collections. -B. K. Lacks, California State University, Fresno
