Library Journal Review

As in The Female Stress Syndrome ( LJ 3/1/84), Witkin-Lanoil tackles the topic of stress, this time focusing on stresses unique to men in our society. Combining the results of a survey given to over 500 randomly selected men and the women closest to them with examples from her own clinical practice, the author isolates the key stress factors common to most men and offers suggestions on recognizing and managing them. Her discussion emphasizes adolescence as a prime time for the origin and growth of life-long stress disorders. With the help of checklists and profiles for self-evaluation provided by the author, men using this book should be able to minimize stress and lead healthier, happier lives.
